My last blog... it's been quite a journey😊 This weeks blog is on cybersecurity for small businesses, which is quite ironic since our college is currently under a cyber attack.
Small businesses are becoming a bigger target for cybercriminals, mainly because they often don’t have the same resources or defenses as larger companies. Building a strong cybersecurity plan isn’t just a good idea—it’s crucial. It helps protect your business, keeps your customers’ trust, and safeguards your reputation.
Why Cybersecurity Matters for Small Businesses
- Data Sensitivity: Small businesses handle customer information, payment details, and proprietary data.
- Compliance Requirements: Many industries require adherence to data protection regulations (e.g., GDPR, CCPA, HIPAA).
- Financial Risks: Cyberattacks can result in costly downtime, legal liabilities, and reputation damage.
Common Threats
- Ransomware: Malicious software that locks your data and demands a ransom for release.
- Insider Threats: Employees or contractors accidentally or intentionally compromising systems
Small Businesses should:
Educate and Train Employees
Secure Your Network
Implement Strong Password Policies
Backup Data Regularly
Limit Access
Following these procedures will reduce risk of getting hacked. So if anyone reading has a small business please do put procedures in place so you won't get hacked like my college is right now..❤
